Welcome!

I am Jordan Johnson, a graduate of Lake Forest College, an Eagle Scout, avid musician, licensed plumber in Antioch, licensed septic installer in Lake County, father and loving husband. I am dedicating this page to educating homeowners.  For most of us our home is our largest financial investment. Contractors who come to your house to sell you something you don’t need based on fear you don’t need to have are a dime a dozen. Feel free to read these mini-articles and please contact me if you have any questions about your home, its plumbing, septic or electrical systems. I am here to be honest with you. I am here to help you.

WHY DOES MY WATER SMELL LIKE ROTTEN EGGS

Freezing Temperatures and Avoiding Pipe Rupture or Burst

Extreme cold Temperatures put your pipes at risk of freezing there is several things as a homeowner you can do to help to avoid the situation

Here is a list of common places that pipes freeze

When pipes run through a basement close to a concrete wall or to the exterior of the home or an unheated garage

When the builder or plumber installed pipes inside of an exterior wall this is a violation of code think about your tub/shower it is the most common place pipes run inside of an exterior wall

When you have a crawlspace or an attic with water pipes running through that space

When you have a hose Connection on your exterior that is not a frost free hose bib or does not have a shut off valve on the inside of the home in order to drain that section of pipe in the winter

Make sure that you open the cabinet Doors under your kitchen sink allow the hot air in your house into the cabinet

if you have a crawlspace I recommend you putting an electric heater in the crawlspace temporarily it’s important to be home while the heaters plugged in you do not want to run the risk of a fire

If you have a crawlspace or any of the other conditions above your home from work over the next two days I highly recommend that you open Both the hot and the cold sides of a Faucet that is furthest away from your water meter or you’re well expansion tank the running water often keeps pipes from freezing.

I am a licensed plumber in Antioch, IL and this is my advice Based on my experience over the years.
